Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei
The aim of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei is to promote, coordinate, integrate and spread scientific knowledge in its highest expression, in the unity and universality of culture. The Academy is divided into two Classes: Physical, Mathematical and Natural Sciences and Moral, Historical and Philophical Sciences. Each of the two Classes comprises 90 national members, 90 corresponding members and 90 foreign members. In order to achieve its goals, the Academy holds General Assemblies of the two Classes and Assemblies of each Class in its competent field; organizes congresses, conferences, conventions, national and international seminaries. The Academy and its members take part in similar Italian and foreign events. The Academy promotes and carries on research activities, provides grants and awards; publishes reports and conclusions, notes and memories together with minutes and proceedings of congresses, conferences and seminars that it organises. Founded by Federico Cesi in 1603, Galileo Galilei was one of its first members.
